2014 The Drawing Board Estate Pinot Noir
The ripe, full clusters from 2014 provided even juicier than previous years, in spite of the vineyard experiencing its 2nd year of drought. This allowed us to continue to isolate some of the fruit to produce a 2nd cuvée from the Estate. The fruit was beautiful and we were able to select some from each block (3 clones 667, 2A & 115) in order to maintain the signature balance we have become accustomed to from our vineyard. About 25% of the grapes for this cuvée came from our acre on Mt. Carmel, which are some of the oldest vines in the Sta. Rita Hills. The vines enjoyed the same hand work & organic farming that the rest of the vineyard receives. Once in the cellar, the grapes fermented in open vats for about 2 weeks before going into barrel for 18 months, racked to tank and has rested in bottle for a year. There is about 15% whole stem inclusion and about 20% new French oak in the finished wine. You will be delighted by the bright, red fruit and clean finish, making it a perfect companion to lean meats, fish and greens. As with all the Wenzlau Estate wine, there is no acidification, chaptalization, fining or filtering.
